What I do...
I am a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist - I provide individual, couple, family,
and group therapy to those in the Metro Atlanta area at Midtown
Psychotherapy Associates (MPA).
What I Believe In...
I am passionate about working
with people of all ages, nationalities,
cultures, orientations, and
backgrounds. The act of revealing your concerns and vulnerabilities to a
therapist can often be a
difficult task — but I also wholeheartedly believe it
can be a truly transformative process. While this
process looks different for
each client, there are two standards that I consistently strive to maintain
during sessions: refraining from judgement, and creating a warm place where
clients can feel
comfortable being and expressing themselves.
In Therapeutic Terms...
Being that I have a
background in Marriage and Family Therapy, I often invite clients to consider
systemic influences in their lives. I believe that we are greater than the sum
of our parts and that
there are many contextual components that contribute to
who we are and how we act, think, and feel.
I specialize in working with
clients who are dealing with relational issues (family, romantic, social,
professional) including the LGBTQ community, and also have clinical interest in
depression, anxiety,
grief and loss, trauma and self-harm issues. My theoretical foundation is in Attachment, Experiential,
Family
Systems, and Structural Theories, though I work to tailor sessions to
clients' specific needs.
Where appropriate, I also often incorporate CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and DBT (dialectical
behavior therapy) components. Please see my blog for further explanation on these theories - under
the "Theories" category.
I am a member of and abide by the ethics/standards of care of these groups:
The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT)
The Georgia Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (GAMFT)
The American Association of Sex Counselors, Educators & Therapists (AASECT)
The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH)
