Welcome!
I'm so glad you've decided to find out more about Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT) and the benefits it can create in your life. I am truly passionate about DBT, use it daily in my own life -- and I believe you will too!

What is DBT?
DBT stand for Dialectical Behavior Therapy. This type of therapy works to help clients better understand themselves, their emotions, and their relationships.

There are four modules in DBT -- specific skills are taught in each.
1) Mindfulness - learning to be present and aware in the current moment.
2) Distress Tolerance - learning to cope with intense feelings without making the situation worse.
3) Emotion Regulation - learning how to interpret emotions and react accordingly.
4) Interpersonal Effectiveness - learning how to attend to relationships; being fair to self and others.

Is DBT Right for Me?
• Do little things tend to cause you extreme emotions that can sometimes be long-lasting?
• Do you either over-express or under-express emotions?
• Do you sometimes have a hard time connecting to your own feelings and/or have trouble expressing them to others?
• Are you somewhat impulsive? Do have a tendency to do things when you're emotional that you later regret? (drinking too much, spending too much money, eating excessively or not eating enough, engaging in inappropriate sex, etc.)
• Do you suffer from extreme bouts of anxiety, panic attacks and/or feel paralyzed when anxious?
• Are you confused about who you really are? For example, do you sometimes wonder if you really like yourself, what your values are, or whether you're a "worthy" person?
• Are your relationships often filled with conflict, or do you have few lasting relationships?
• Do you find that when an important person in your life is upset with you or wants to leave a relationship, you feel overwhelmed with fear of abandonment as if you cannot survive without that person?
• Do you find that sometimes, when you are really upset, that you want to hurt yourself, or that you no longer want to be here?
• Do you ever feel empty or numb for long periods of time?

If you answered "true" or "mostly true" to some of these questions, then DBT might be a good fit for you.
